Almost quit, took this photo and went to Wendy's instead
I know Cobra R's are played out on these cars, but man those wheels and being lowered. That color probably isn't in my top five of MN12 colors and the car looks awesome to me. I have a set of the old SVT Cobras that I want to put on the '97 this summer.

They do just look right. I’m the same way, I thought the most overplayed wheels circa 2005-2006 were Cobra Rs and Bullitts, but I ended up running the latter now and at the end of the day those dare to be different prejudices I harbor just seem silly.

I love the TE37s though, it’s such a good looking wheel, it’s got that same trait that makes everything they’re installed on cool as old school slot mags from the 60s-70s do(to me). OTOH I feel that way about Cobra Rs as well within the Ford world

They were. But the community was a lot bigger during that time period. I got my first set of superior Cobra replicas in 1998 - back then the only other choice was the Ford racing set. Nobody was hub swapping until a few years later. Around 2003 is when The custom wheel shop sold a shit ton of variations, 03 cobras, bullits, etc .. I wonder where all those wheels ended up but I'm sure what's left isn't much - even the Taurus guys were buying the Cobra Rs since it was a the same hub pattern.

I prefer the TEs, hands down. And when I repainted them I specifically did them for this car and color matched the spoke decals.

But, the Cobras are period correct with the build I was going for and they are a good match.

Idk, I'm going back and forth on making this car an SVT clone, which calls for these wheels. It pops up as an LXSVT on all my insurance documents so it's a reoccurring idea.

Both wheels are period correct, I don’t know specifically when TE37s came out but it had to be mid 1990s to early 2000s at the latest I first remember seeing them.

I get it though, I turned a corner at some point from building my car in whimsical follow the technology sort of way to building it more in a way I dreamed I could have in high school. My car now is very close to what I imagined it could be circa 2006 even though my attitude in like 2010 was like “pfft!” to my teenage dreams.

I’ve tried to ignore the grim survival rate of all those special MN12 parts at their peak, I came to the community around 2006 and distinctly remember the various custom wheel shop offerings in the forum for a while. I snobbishily bought my 10th anniversary Cobras in part because it was like the one Mustang wheel they weren’t replicating in the MN12 patten besides the FR500 (my second choice at the time).

It wasn’t just the Cobra R’a prevalence on MN12s at the time either, my biggest exposure to the “late model” Ford world was Mustang magazines when I was a kid-teen, Cobra Rs were on literally every other Fox-SN95 Mustang featured in Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords circa 2000-2005, and I quickly grew numb to them for a long time.

I remember going to car shows during this time .. the SN95s seemed tacky / poserish with the cobra R wheels, just like the snake emblems on a GT .. 🤭 .. people did that also a LOT. In their defense; the stock GT wheels looked shitty.

My buddy had a 95 Cobra in high school; that car was badass and it didn't even come with the R wheels. I've only seen one legit 1995 351 cobra R with the legit factory wheels at Sonoma raceway and that was owned by a Tbird owners dad.

Cobras on an MN12, Fox or Taurus on the other hand made you give it a second look, its more intimidating. Never seemed to catch on with the crown Vics?

Even with a Cobra(ish) motor I tried Cobra emblems on my car and I had enough prejudice in me from memories of that era to peel them off and put the stock V8 emblems back on ever since lol

I agree SN95 Mustang GTs had mostly ugly wheels until the Bullitts became an option in 01, BUT I don't think there was really a bad looking Cobra in this period, I never disliked the Cobra R but I loved the look of the other Cobra-non Rs, from the 93 to the 94-97s, to the one off 98s(which were basically Cobra Rs but curvier) to the 99-01 Cobras and 03-04 Cobras(which there were custom wheel shop replicas of but as far as I remember only in chrome(which I personally don't really like))on MN12s at least equally. The 96-97 Cobras just blow Cobra R reps out of the water IMO Especially on a 96-97. Cobra Rs look great and today better than ever but the factory options with a hub swap were even better IMODSCF0056.jpgb (104).jpgb (130).jpg23386510012_large.jpgcoug1.jpg

The TEs came out in 96 but iirc only for the 4 lug civics. Plus the decals and coloring are very different. I think they only came in white with blue stickers for the first few years, then had matte bronze
