The Official BirdCats Beer Thread! What are you drinking? 🍺

So last week was Stout Week one of my favorite local craft breweries.....Side Project. Each day highlighted a special beer by one of their brewers. This was their final offering on Saturday called TM Persona....a rum and bourbon barrel-aged stout with maple syrup, vanilla, truffles and cocoa nibs.

Have all of the beer drinkers here noticed a shift away from craft breweries? I'm seeing the market shift locally as 3 are coming together in one location here in town. I've heard they've been having struggles and wondered if it was country wide

I have seen some established craft breweries close recently. Craft beer is dying and I think it all started with COVID. Local line shares ended back then, there are some now, but not nearly what they used to be. Plus craft beer fans from back then are now 5 years older and aren't drinking as much as they were (at least true for me). The younger drinkers don't seem to be interested in craft beer. I know my college age son think all beer tastes the same--"gross". Seems like fruited seltzers are all the rage now. Just my 2 cents

I think it was a fad that just played itself out, I tend to see the rise and fall of craft beer parallels the rise and fall of millennials hipsters

I love modelos. Currently drinking liqueur shots though

For me Coors Banquet for cans or Miller High Life or MGD in bottles, Modelo is way better than Corona but it tastes like Miller Lite to me(yuck).

I don't drink all that often, but occasionally I would get a craft brew. More often than not I tend to go back to the basics of Coors light or Budweiser.

We have lots of breweries in Portland that are closing, but I just figured its because Portland is currently an outhouse. We have more tap houses than ever so far. Tap houses piss me off because the prices can be insane, and people bring their children, which is absolute bullshit. I don't want to hear them throwing a temper tantrum while Im drinking or accidentally step on one

I'm getting pretty sick of IPAs but I'm not sure if its my palette or if the readily available ("affordable") batches are being gradually enshittified for profits. Something like hop extracts. Who knows? I don't think they are required to notify batch modifications, let alone ingredients. For craft beers the last year, I'm on a beat for Rice Lagers. They are very unique from eachother, but if you're looking for a good buzz, there is no cost efficiency there. They're usually 4.6%. I had a dry hopped rice lager from Hetty Alice that was in the high 6s, and it was excellent. Can't find it anymore

This is a curious observation, didn't all of the generalized 'styles' fizzle out with the hipsters at the same time? I don't really see 'genre's of styling anymore. Like what's next? Maybe cyberpunk once augmented reality sets foot, otherwise its coming out of left field

Speaking of style fads, the pixie haircut movement of around 2012 were the darkest times :smokin:

Honestly I think it happened well before then. The 1990s was the last definable era as far as style, everything since has been a conscious or unconscious regurgitation/amalgamation of various western 20th century fashions. Clothing, cars, music, movies you name it.

Another correlation that I just thought about is the general legalization of weed as a possible cause of the fall of craft beer. Regardless, I been chasing craft beer before it was even a thing and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I still seek new beers every time I travel.

Of mainstream beers, my fallbacks are Budweiser, Amberbock and an occasional Nego Modelo.

At first I disagree but Im leaning in to it. The exceptions I were thinking of are amalgamating established sub-cultures. Just like when you said something to the effect of "because they intend to squeeze every last bit of joy out of everything." I think it was in BC chat, maybe referencing car colors or something. I thought that was just too cynical and generalized for a statement, but it rings more true as each day passes by and I have a quick giggle often.

The timestamp topic reminds me of my sentiment of 2012, that it really was the end of the 'world.' It was the moment that the internet completely breached personal space. I like to think that a majority of the horrible events and extreme opinions are the result of babies (boomers and children) being obligated to own a smart phone, where as our intermediate generations had time to watch the internet grow and expect silly shit to manifest. It was an odd little corner of madness to us, but now a beacon of truth to many

A few breweries and taprooms around here have closed or merged together, some keeping the brands instead of totally eliminating them. I think a lot of people rode the wave of popularity of craft beers and breweries popped up everywhere, saturating the market. Then economic reality set in and they realized they couldn't stay in business.
I still seek new beers every time I travel.
Same here! :zbeer:

It’s been a a minute but last time I was in Waterloo, I was surprised at the number of craft beer places and the quality. Hope they don’t go away. Several big name breweries in Atlanta have closed.

When I travel, I always look for local breweries and tap houses to visit.

Single Speed is joining with Peach Tree and Backpocket. I'd be ok with it but the city is giving them a bunch of funds to do this and another tax deferral. We do too much of that around here. Give money to businesses that won't thrive if we don't have more job growth in the area. Cart before the horse kind of stuff.

```````````` ive only ever had modelos in glass, and i havent had much beer, but a friend bought me one and i stuck to it. if i drink light its gonna be a modelo. If i want to not move for 4 hours and be wasted i pull out the cheapo 99s.
Id almost be curious how much worse these fruity shooters are for me than just drinking beer or wine.
also had jeager, and i like patrone but dont go out of my way to buy it.
