Follow up:
Since I redid the cables and connections to the battery, the ignition has not skipped a beat. I have not had the key lock do nothing when turned, which was the issue to begin with. I suspect it was a combination of things, ignition switch, old battery and cables. But all that diagnostics and rebuilding worked. Now my wife can't yell at me anymore that the car is "unsafe" with host of other words used.
